Student success outcomes

Student outcome information, including graduation rates and other measures, is published on the institution’s own website and by the U.S. Department of Education through College Navigator and, for institutions that enroll undergraduates, College Scorecard.

Those federal sites report on an institution’s main campus. Some institutions report certain divisions or branch campuses separately; search those sites to find any additional entries.

About NAAE and accreditation

NAAE is an institutional accreditor of degree-granting colleges and universities based in the United States.

Institutional accreditation speaks to the quality of an institution as a whole. It examines the institution across many dimensions, including its academic programs, governance and administration, mission, finances and resources. NAAE’s accreditation covers every degree level the institution offers, whether taught on site or online. Institutions may separately seek specialized or programmatic accreditation, which applies to an individual program, department or school rather than to the institution.

Evaluation process

Institutions accredited by NAAE are evaluated against the NAAE Standards and NAAE’s other requirements. Accreditation attests both that an institution meets threshold requirements and that it is engaged in continuous improvement. Between evaluations, accredited institutions report to NAAE annually, submit interim reports when the Commission requires them, and adhere to NAAE policies and practices.

The process rests on peer review. Faculty and administrators from other institutions of higher education serve as NAAE evaluators, conduct the review, and make recommendations to NAAE’s decision-making body, which takes the final action. The steps of the process are described on the accreditation process page.

Decision making

The NAAE Commission on Accreditation reviews the recommendations of evaluators and staff and takes formal actions on an institution’s compliance with the Standards and other requirements. The Commission is made up of institutional representatives and public members. See the Commission for its membership.

Public information

NAAE is committed to informing the public about the accreditation decisions it makes regarding individual institutions.

Actions NAAE takes on an institution’s accreditation status are disclosed publicly. When accreditation is reaffirmed, when a sanction is imposed or reviewed, and when accreditation is withdrawn, the action letter issued to the institution is made available on its Member page, reached through the directory of institutions. A public disclosure notice is also published in the directory when an institution is sanctioned, when a designation is assigned or removed, when an institution resigns its accreditation or candidacy, when an institution closes, or when NAAE withdraws accreditation. The notice summarizes the most relevant information from the action letter. Decisions are also summarized on the recent accrediting actions page.

Complaints against institutions

NAAE maintains a formal complaint process through which students, faculty and other parties may report information suggesting that an accredited or candidate institution is not meeting NAAE’s requirements. The process exists so that NAAE can review such information in a timely and fair manner. It is not a means of appealing an institution’s decision about an individual, such as a grade or a disciplinary matter.
